Starting with a classic brownie batter, we add melted chocolate chips and cocoa powder to melted butter. The sugars are incorporated, then the eggs, and vanilla. The flour and salt is added next, finally the best part, chocolate chips! Did we mention all of the can be done in the same bowl? It’s a simple and foolproof brownie recipe, which is rich in chocolate goodness.

As if that wasn’t enough, we take it a step further by layering whole Oreos between the batter before baking. This not only adds to the gooeyness but also ensures that with every slice, you get a cross-section of brownie and whole Oreo. The result? A visually stunning and decadently delicious treat that’s perfect for sharing (or not, not judgement here!).

Servings: 16 brownies

Equipment

  • 9 x 9 brownie pan

Ingredients

Brownie Recipe

  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup milk chocolate chips, melted Semi-sweet works as well
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2-1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 16 whole oreos

Toppings

  • 6-8 crushed oreos

Instructions

Make Brownie Batter

  • Preheat your oven to 350°.
  • Combine the melted chocolate chips with melted butter. Whisk together until all is incorporated.
  • Add the sugar, vanilla, eggs, and cocoa powder to the chocolate/butter mixture. Whisk well.
  • Add the sprinkle of salt, and slowly add in flour. Stir well after each addition until the brownie batter is made. Whisk in whole chocolate chips at this time.

Prepare mixture

  • Spray a 9x9 baking pan with non-stick spray, or place wax paper in the bottom. Use around half of the brownie batter to fill the bottom of the pan.
  • Layer Oreo cookies on top of the batter, filling every gap as possible. If needed, break up some of the cookies to reach the sides/corners.
  • Fill the pan with the rest of the brownie batter, covering the Oreos completely.
  • Add crushed Oreos to the top of the batter, covering to your desired amount.
  • Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean of crumbs from the center. Keep in mind there are chocolate chips in the batter, so melted chocolate chips are not the same as underbaked batter.

Notes

I love this recipe so much! It is a hit at my house, and a fan favorite for sure. There are so many different things that you can try such as adding crushed Oreo to the batter, making an Oreo icing for the top, adding ice cream for an Oreo sunday, and the list goes on forever. If you do not want as sweet of brownies, you can replace the milk chocolate chips with semi-sweet or dark. Make sure to leave the brownies in the oven for at least 35 minutes because in my experience anything less leaves the outsides cooked but the middle underbaked. I hope you love this recipe, and add your own flair to it. Happy baking!

Enjoy your Gooey Oreo Brownies!
